Recreating my outfit from the Deathly Hallows Release + Extreme Nostalgia

Today is Harry Potter’s Birthday, and this month is the 11th anniversary of the final book release in the series- the last midnight book release I had the privilege to attend.

In celebration, I decided to recreate the outfit I wore to the Deathly Hallows release 11 years ago. Actually, I still own the original outfit (a starry sky patterned top and jeans – I’m sure I wore out whatever pair of Sensible Shoes I was wearing at the time) because I haven’t grown since I was 12, but I thought it would be cuter to create a new version of the look. 😛

For the 2007 release, I went to a Borders release party with my friend PJ. What a magical event! There were Potter themed snacks and cosplayers of all ages. We spent most of the night just browsing the bookstore, laughing at our own jokes and peering into the back room for a glimpse at those sealed boxes.

Outfit details: J.Crew Tippi sweater, Uniqlo jeans and Tevas

So here I am in 2018! Same height, same look and still a huge fan of the books that changed my childhood!

As a bonus, some pictures from this year’s Harry Potter Birthday Party ft. unicorn blood cake and casual Snape cosplay:

I’ve read and loved a lot of books, but I don’t know if any of them can be as close to my heart as the seven best friends I grew up with. These days, Harry Potter is a huge part of pop culture marketing for people my age, but as amazing as it is to see Wizarding World merch in every store eleven years later, nothing compares to the experience of actually reading the books and the magic of those original memories. For fellow fans and nerds, I’d love to hear and see your memories too.

“ spite of everything, in spite of the dark and twisting path he saw stretching ahead for himself, in spite of the final meeting with Voldemort he knew must come, whether in a month, in a year, or in ten, he felt his heart lift at the thought that there was still one last golden day of peace left to enjoy with Ron and Hermione.”
